  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2          BY  KAUFMANN, GIPP, UPMEYER, FREVERT,
  1  3                   THOMAS, and JACOBY
  1  4 A Resolution congratulating Iowa's community colleges
  1  5    in their 40th anniversary year.
  1  6    WHEREAS, in 1966 the State Board of Education
  1  7 officially designated each of Iowa's 15 community
  1  8 colleges; and
  1  9    WHEREAS, 2005 fall term credit enrollments totaled
  1 10 82,681, and noncredit enrollments totaled in excess of
  1 11 300,000; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the community colleges of Iowa have an
  1 13 exceptionally broad mission as identified in the Code
  1 14 of Iowa, and that mission is still fulfilled within
  1 15 the context of an open=door philosophy; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, the vast majority of community college
  1 17 graduates remain in Iowa following graduation; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, the community colleges of Iowa emphasize
  1 19 flexibility, adaptability, and high quality in their
  1 20 teaching philosophy and practice; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, the community colleges of Iowa provide
  1 22 innovation in achieving academic excellence, promoting
  1 23 economic development, establishing proactive
  1 24 vocational programming, and sustaining cooperative
  1 25 endeavors with secondary students; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 26    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 27 That the House of Representatives congratulates the 15
  1 28 community colleges of Iowa in their 40th anniversary
  1 29 year and their ongoing commitment to educational
  1 30 excellence and the students of Iowa.
