  1 An Act allowing a nonresident person who possesses a valid out=
  2    of=state weapons permit to carry weapons in this state under
  3    reciprocity conditions.
  4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 724.4, subsection 4, paragraph i, Code
  1  2 2005, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    i.  A person who has in the person's possession and who
  1  4 displays to a peace officer on demand a valid permit to carry
  1  5 weapons which has been issued to the person, and whose conduct
  1  6 is within the limits of that permit.  A person shall not be
  1  7 convicted of a violation of this section if the person
  1  8 produces at the person's trial a permit to carry weapons which
  1  9 was valid at the time of the alleged offense and which would
  1 10 have brought the person's conduct within this exception if the
  1 11 permit had been produced at the time of the alleged offense.
  1 12 For the purposes of this paragraph, "person" shall include a
  1 13 nonresident person who has been issued and possesses a valid
  1 14 out=of=state weapons permit and whose resident state grants a
  1 15 similar privilege to residents of this state.
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17    This bill allows a nonresident who has been issued and
  1 18 possesses a valid out=of=state weapons permit to carry weapons
  1 19 in this state if the nonresident's state of residence grants a
  1 20 similar privilege to residents of this state.
