  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  80.41  DIVISION OF STATE PATROL
  1  2 == USE OF MOTOR VEHICLE.
  1  3    A state=owned motor vehicle assigned to a peace officer
  1  4 member of the Iowa state patrol shall be used by the officer
  1  5 only until such time as the motor vehicle's odometer registers
  1  6 seventy thousand miles.  At such time, the vehicle may be
  1  7 reassigned within the division to be used for purposes other
  1  8 than patrolling the highways or may be disposed of pursuant to
  1  9 section 8A.362.
  1 10                           EXPLANATION
  1 11    This bill relates to the use of motor vehicles by the
  1 12 division of the Iowa state patrol.
  1 13    The bill provides that a motor vehicle assigned to a peace
  1 14 officer of the Iowa state patrol shall not be driven more than
  1 15 70,000 miles by the officer.  When such vehicle's odometer
  1 16 registers 70,000 miles, the vehicle may be reassigned within
  1 17 the division to be used for purposes other than patrolling the
  1 18 highways or may be disposed of at auction or by trade pursuant
  1 19 to Code section 8A.362.
