  1  1    Section 1.  Section 80B.11C, Code 2005, is amended to read
  1  2 as follows:
  1  3    80B.11C  TELECOMMUNICATOR TRAINING STANDARDS.
  1  4    The director of the academy, subject to the approval of the
  1  5 council, in consultation with the Iowa state sheriffs' and
  1  6 deputies' association, the Iowa police executive forum, the
  1  7 Iowa association of chiefs of police and peace officers, the
  1  8 Iowa state police association, the Iowa association of
  1  9 professional fire fighters, the Iowa emergency medical
  1 10 services association, the joint council of Iowa fire service
  1 11 organizations, the Iowa department of public safety, the Iowa
  1 12 chapter of the association of public safety communications
  1 13 officials=international, inc., the Iowa chapter of the
  1 14 national emergency number association, the homeland security
  1 15 and emergency management division of the Iowa department of
  1 16 public defense, and the Iowa department of public health,
  1 17 shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 17A establishing minimum
  1 18 standards for training of telecommunicators.  For purposes of
  1 19 this section, "telecommunicator" means a person who receives
  1 20 requests for, or dispatches requests to, public emergency
  1 21 response agencies which include, but are not limited to, law
  1 22 enforcement, fire, rescue, and emergency medical services
  1 23 agencies.
  1 24                           EXPLANATION
  1 25    This bill relates to the definition of "telecommunicator"
  1 26 for purposes of telecommunicator training standards
  1 27 promulgated by the Iowa law enforcement academy.  The bill
  1 28 specifies that a telecommunicator is a person who receives
  1 29 requests for, or dispatches requests to, public emergency
  1 30 response agencies.
