  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  483A.8A  SENIOR CROSSBOW DEER
  1  2 HUNTING LICENSES.
  1  3    A person who is a resident and who is seventy years of age
  1  4 or older may be issued one special senior statewide antlerless
  1  5 deer only crossbow deer hunting license to hunt deer during
  1  6 bow season as established by rule by the commission.  A person
  1  7 who obtains a license to hunt deer under this section is not
  1  8 required to pay the wildlife habitat fee but shall be
  1  9 otherwise qualified to hunt deer in this state and shall have
  1 10 a resident hunting license.
  1 11    A person may obtain a license under this section in
  1 12 addition to a statewide antlered or any sex deer hunting bow
  1 13 season license.  Season dates, shooting hours, limits, license
  1 14 quotas, and other regulations for this license shall be the
  1 15 same as set forth by the commission by rule for bow season
  1 16 deer hunts.
  1 17                           EXPLANATION
  1 18    This bill provides that persons who are residents of Iowa
  1 19 and who are 70 years of age or older may be issued one special
  1 20 senior statewide antlerless deer only crossbow hunting license
  1 21 to hunt deer during the regular deer hunting bow season.  A
  1 22 person may obtain a crossbow deer hunting license under the
  1 23 new provision in addition to a statewide antlered or any sex
  1 24 deer bow license.  A person who obtains a license under the
  1 25 provision is not required to pay the wildlife habitat fee but
  1 26 must be otherwise qualified to hunt deer in this state and
  1 27 must have a resident hunting license.
  1 28    The bill provides that season dates, shooting hours,
  1 29 limits, license quotas, and other regulations for this license
  1 30 are the same as those set forth by the natural resource
  1 31 commission in rules for the deer hunting bow season.  An
  1 32 unlimited number of licenses may be issued under the new
  1 33 provision.  The daily and season bag and possession limit is
  1 34 one deer per license.
