  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.34, subsection 10, Code 2005, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1  3    NEW PARAGRAPH.  e.  Upon the death of a person who has been
  1  4 issued special registration plates under this subsection, a
  1  5 person who is listed as a co=owner on the vehicle's
  1  6 certificate of title may continue to use the special plates on
  1  7 the vehicle for which the plates were issued subject to
  1  8 registration of the special plates in the surviving co=owner's
  1  9 name and upon payment of the annual registration fee.  The
  1 10 special plates are not transferable to another owner or to
  1 11 another vehicle and shall be surrendered upon transfer of
  1 12 ownership of the vehicle for which the plates were issued.
  1 13                           EXPLANATION
  1 14    This bill provides that, upon the death of the owner of a
  1 15 motor vehicle bearing special fire fighter registration
  1 16 plates, a surviving co=owner of record may continue to use the
  1 17 special plates subject to registration of the plates in the
  1 18 co=owner's name and payment of the annual registration fee.
  1 19 The special plates may only be used on the vehicle for which
  1 20 they were issued and must be surrendered when the co=owner
  1 21 transfers ownership of the vehicle.
