  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  15.274  PROMOTIONAL PROGRAM FOR
  1  2 NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARKS.
  1  3    The department of economic development, in cooperation with
  1  4 the state department of transportation and the department of
  1  5 cultural affairs, shall establish and administer a program
  1  6 designed to promote knowledge of and access to buildings,
  1  7 sites, districts, structures, and objects located in this
  1  8 state that have been designated by the secretary of the
  1  9 interior of the United States as a national historical
  1 10 landmark.  The program shall be designed to maximize the
  1 11 visibility and visitation of national historic landmarks in
  1 12 this state through the use of, but not limited to, signage on
  1 13 highways, tourism literature, and maps of the state and
  1 14 cities.  For purposes of this section, "highway" means the
  1 15 same as defined in section 325A.1.
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17    This bill relates to the establishment of a promotional
  1 18 program for national historic landmarks.
  1 19    The bill requires the department of economic development,
  1 20 in cooperation with the state department of transportation and
  1 21 the department of cultural affairs, to establish and
  1 22 administer a program designed to promote knowledge of and
  1 23 access to buildings, sites, districts, structures, and objects
  1 24 located in the state that have been designated by the
  1 25 secretary of the interior of the United States as a national
  1 26 historical landmark.  The bill provides that the program shall
  1 27 be designed to maximize the visibility and visitation of
  1 28 national historic landmarks in the state.
