  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  331.906  COMPENSATION BOARD
  1  2 ALTERNATIVE.
  1  3    1.  On or before October 1, 2005, and every three years
  1  4 thereafter, the board may decide whether the board shall
  1  5 perform the duties of the county compensation board under
  1  6 section 331.907.  If the board so decides, the board shall
  1  7 perform the duties of the county compensation board for a
  1  8 period of three years.  Thereafter, the board may decide
  1  9 whether to continue performing such duties.
  1 10    2.  If the board decides to perform the duties of the
  1 11 county compensation board itself, the terms of office of the
  1 12 members of the county compensation board are terminated and
  1 13 the county compensation board shall be deemed dormant until
  1 14 the duties of the county compensation board are ceded back to
  1 15 the county compensation board.
  1 16                           EXPLANATION
  1 17    This bill gives a board of county supervisors the option of
  1 18 performing duties that are currently performed by the county
  1 19 compensation board.  The board can decide once every three
  1 20 years whether to perform the duties of the county compensation
  1 21 board.  If the board so decides, the board must perform such
  1 22 duties for a three=year period of time and then may decide
  1 23 whether to continue performing such duties.
  1 24    The bill provides that after the board takes over the
  1 25 duties, the county compensation board members' terms of office
  1 26 are terminated and the county compensation board is deemed
  1 27 dormant until the duties of the county compensation board are
  1 28 restored.
