  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  15.301  BUSINESS ACCELERATORS.
  1  2    By June 30, 2007, the department shall establish criteria
  1  3 for the establishment and approval of twelve business
  1  4 accelerators in the state designed to foster the accelerated
  1  5 growth of new and existing businesses through the provision of
  1  6 technical assistance.  The business accelerators shall be
  1  7 located in geographically diverse areas of the state.  A
  1  8 business accelerator must be a not=for=profit organization
  1  9 affiliated with an area chamber of commerce or a community or
  1 10 county organization.  The geographic area served by a business
  1 11 accelerator must include more than one county.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill relates to criteria for the establishment of
  1 14 business accelerators by the department of economic
  1 15 development.
  1 16    The bill requires the department, by June 30, 2007, to
  1 17 establish criteria for the establishment and approval of 12
  1 18 business accelerators in the state designed to foster the
  1 19 accelerated growth of new and existing businesses through the
  1 20 provision of technical assistance.  The bill provides that the
  1 21 business accelerators shall be located in geographically
  1 22 diverse areas of the state and must be a not=for=profit
  1 23 business affiliated with an area chamber of commerce or a
  1 24 community or county organization.  The bill provides that the
  1 25 geographic area served by a business accelerator must include
  1 26 more than one county.
