STATEWIDE CORE CURRICULUM AND STANDARDS STUDY. 1 2 The department of education shall conduct a study of the 1 3 advantages and disadvantages of existing state law and 1 4 administrative rules related to content, performance, and 1 5 graduation standards for kindergarten through grade twelve 1 6 programs offered by school districts. The study shall include 1 7 recommendations related to appropriate policy adjustments, as 1 8 necessary. Additionally, the department shall determine 1 9 methods for supporting and coordinating the model core 1 10 curriculum implementation efforts by school districts 1 11 throughout the state. The department shall develop language 1 12 that clearly explains kindergarten through grade twelve 1 13 education standards in a statewide context. The department 1 14 shall submit a progress report to the chairpersons and ranking 1 15 members of the senate and house of representatives standing 1 16 education committees and to the chairpersons and ranking 1 17 members of the joint appropriations subcommittee on education 1 18 by January 1, 2007. The department shall submit a report 1 19 summarizing the results of the study and making 1 20 recommendations to the chairpersons and ranking members of the 1 21 senate and house of representatives standing education 1 22 committees and to the chairpersons and ranking members of the 1 23 joint appropriations subcommittee on education by July 1, 1 24 2007. 1 25 EXPLANATION 1 26 This bill directs the department of education to conduct a 1 27 statewide core curriculum and standards study to determine the 1 28 advantages and disadvantages of current law and administrative 1 29 rules related to content, performance, and graduation 1 30 standards for kindergarten through grade 12 programs offered 1 31 by school districts.
