  1  1    Section 1.  Section 802.2, Code 2005, is amended by
  1  2 striking the section and inserting in lieu thereof the
  1  3 following:
  1  4    802.2  SEXUAL ABUSE == FIRST, SECOND, OR THIRD DEGREE.
  1  5    An information or indictment for sexual abuse in the first,
  1  6 second, or third degree may be commenced at any time after the
  1  7 sexual abuse occurs.
  1  8                           EXPLANATION
  1  9    This bill extends the statute of limitations for sexual
  1 10 abuse.
  1 11    The bill extends the statute of limitations to prosecute
  1 12 sexual abuse in the first, second, or third degree to any time
  1 13 after the sexual abuse occurs.  Current law provides that any
  1 14 sexual abuse involving a victim under the age of 18 must be
  1 15 prosecuted within 10 years of the victim reaching the age of
  1 16 18.  Current law also provides that any other sexual abuse be
  1 17 prosecuted within 10 years after the commission of the
  1 18 offense.
