1 An Act providing an appropriation to review state buildings for

1 1 Section 1. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY == REVIEW OF STATE
1 2 BUILDINGS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT.
1 3 There is appropriated from the general fund of the state to
1 4 the department of public safety for the fiscal year beginning
1 5 July 1, 2006, and ending June 30, 2007, the following amount,
1 6 or so much thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purpose
1 7 designated:
1 8 To provide for the review and assessment of all buildings
1 9 and structures owned by the state, or an agency of the state,
1 10 to ensure that such buildings and structures are compliant
1 11 with the federal Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990:
1 12 .................................................. $ 50,000
1 13 The state building code commissioner shall consult with the
1 14 director of the department of administrative services in
1 15 conducting such review and assessment.
1 16 The state building code commissioner shall report the
1 17 results of such assessment to the joint transportation,
1 18 infrastructure, and capitals appropriations subcommittee and
1 19 the legislative services agency prior to the convening of the
1 20 general assembly in 2008. For those buildings and structures
1 21 that are not compliant, the state building code commissioner,
1 22 after consulting with the department of administrative
1 23 services, shall include in the report an estimate of the cost
1 24 to bring the state's buildings and structures into compliance.
1 25 EXPLANATION
1 26 This bill appropriates $50,000 to the department of public
1 27 safety for the review and assessment of all buildings and
1 28 structures owned by the state, or an agency of the state, to
1 29 ensure that such buildings and structures are compliant with
1 30 the federal Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990. The
1 31 state building code commissioner is required to consult with
1 32 the director of the department of administrative services in
1 33 conducting the review and assessment.
1 34 The state building code commissioner is required to report
1 35 on the assessment to the joint transportation, infrastructure,
2 1 and capitals appropriations subcommittee and the legislative
2 2 services agency prior to the convening of the general assembly
2 3 in 2008. For those buildings and structures that are not
2 4 compliant, the state building code commissioner, after
2 5 consulting with the department of administrative services,
2 6 must include in the report an estimate of the cost to bring
2 7 the state's buildings and structures into compliance.
