  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.463, subsection 5, paragraph b,
  1  2 Code 2005, is amended by adding the following new unnumbered
  1  3 paragraph:
  1  4    NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH.  Notwithstanding the provisions
  1  5 of this lettered paragraph, during the period beginning
  1  6 September 1 and ending November 30, the maximum gross weight
  1  7 allowed to be carried on a vehicle hauling crops, including
  1  8 corn, soybeans, hay, straw, and stover, on noninterstate
  1  9 highways from the point of harvest to a storage or
  1 10 distribution point is ninety thousand pounds.  However, weight
  1 11 embargoes on bridges shall continue to apply.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill creates an exception to maximum gross weight
  1 14 limits for vehicles hauling crops on noninterstate highways
  1 15 from the point of harvest to a distribution or storage point
  1 16 during the period of harvest from September 1 through November
  1 17 30 annually.  Current law establishes graduated weight limits
  1 18 for vehicles or combination of vehicles based on the number of
  1 19 axles, with a maximum allowable weight of 80,000 pounds.  The
  1 20 bill allows a maximum gross weight of 90,000 pounds,
  1 21 regardless of the number of axles, during the harvest period.
  1 22    Weight limitations on bridges are not affected by the bill.
