NEW SECTION. 68A.506 CONTRIBUTIONS == 1 2 LIMITATIONS ON AMOUNTS IN LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS. 1 3 1. The aggregate amount of contributions made to a 1 4 candidate for the senate or the house of representatives and 1 5 the candidate's committee by a committee or a person other 1 6 than the candidate shall not exceed a total of one thousand 1 7 dollars in cash and one thousand dollars in in=kind 1 8 contributions for each primary election, or in lieu thereof a 1 9 convention of a political party, and an equal amount for each 1 10 general election. 1 11 2. The aggregate amount of the contributions made to a 1 12 candidate for the senate or the house of representatives and 1 13 the candidate's committee by a political party, as defined in 1 14 section 43.2, shall not exceed a total of two thousand five 1 15 hundred dollars in cash and two thousand five hundred dollars 1 16 in in=kind contributions for each primary election, or in lieu 1 17 thereof a convention of a political party, and an equal amount 1 18 for each general election. 1 19 3. As used in this section, the term "cash" includes but 1 20 is not limited to a check, money order, or other negotiable 1 21 instrument. 1 22 EXPLANATION 1 23 This bill imposes contribution limits on state legislative 1 24 campaigns. The bill would limit the total amount of 1 25 contributions by persons other than the candidate. The limit 1 26 for a candidate for the senate or house of representatives is 1 27 $1,000 in cash and $1,000 in in=kind contributions for each 1 28 primary election, or in lieu thereof a convention of a 1 29 political party, and an equal amount for each general 1 30 election. 1 31 The bill also limits contributions made by a political 1 32 party to a candidate for the senate or house of 1 33 representatives, to a total of $2,500 in cash and $2,500 in 1 34 in=kind contributions for each primary election, or in lieu 1 35 thereof a convention of a political party, and an equal amount 2 1 of each general election. 2 2 LSB 6122HH 81 2 3 jr:nh/cf/24
