4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

PAG LIN
1 1 Section 1. Section 257.11, subsection 6, Code Supplement
1 2 2005, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 6. SHARED CLASSES DELIVERED OVER THE IOWA COMMUNICATIONS
1 4 NETWORK.
1 5 a. A pupil attending a class in which students from one or
1 6 more other school districts are enrolled and which is taught
1 7 via the Iowa communications network is not deemed to be
1 8 attending a class in another school district or in a community
1 9 college for the purposes of this section and the school
1 10 district is not eligible for supplementary weighting for that
1 11 class under this section.
1 12 b. A pupil attending a class via the Iowa communications
1 13 network which meets the requirements of subsection 3,
1 14 paragraph "b", subparagraphs (1) through (7), for classes
1 15 offered through a sharing agreement between a school district
1 16 and a community college shall be assigned a weighting of
1 17 forty=eight hundredths of the percentage of the pupil's school
1 18 day during which the pupil attends the class via the Iowa
1 19 communications network.
1 20 EXPLANATION
1 21 This bill modifies the provisions of Code section 257.11,
1 22 subsection 6, which currently provides that supplementary
1 23 weighting is not available for classes taught via the Iowa
1 24 communications network, such that this restriction shall not
1 25 apply to supplementary weighting for community college=level
1 26 classes. The bill provides that a pupil attending a class via
1 27 the network which meets the applicable requirements for
1 28 classes offered through a sharing agreement between a school
1 29 district and a community college shall be assigned a weighting
1 30 of forty=eight hundredths of the percentage of the pupil's
1 31 school day during which the pupil attends the class via the
1 32 Iowa communications network. This is the same level of
1 33 supplementary weighing for which a pupil currently qualifies
1 34 for nonnetwork classes offered through a sharing agreement
1 35 between a school district and a community college.
