  3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 915.86, Code 2005, is amended by adding
  1  2 the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  13.  Reasonable mileage reimbursement
  1  4 incurred by a victim, a secondary victim, the parent or
  1  5 guardian of a victim, or the survivor of a homicide victim as
  1  6 described in subsection 10 for transportation to medical,
  1  7 counseling, funeral, and criminal justice proceedings not to
  1  8 exceed one thousand dollars per person.  The mileage
  1  9 reimbursement rate shall be the current rate established by
  1 10 the director of the department of administrative services for
  1 11 state employees pursuant to section 8A.363.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill relates to the victim compensation fund and
  1 14 allows reasonable mileage reimbursement expenses incurred by a
  1 15 victim, a secondary victim, the parent or guardian of a
  1 16 victim, or the survivor of a homicide victim for
  1 17 transportation to medical, counseling, funeral, and criminal
  1 18 justice proceedings not to exceed $1,000 per person.  The
  1 19 mileage reimbursement rate shall be the current rate
  1 20 established by the director of the department of
  1 21 administrative services for state employees.
