  1  1    Section 1.  Section 904.201, subsection 4, Code 2005, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    4.  The classification unit shall admit inmates for
  1  4 purposes of orientation and classification before placement in
  1  5 the most appropriate correctional institutions.  As part of
  1  6 the orientation and classification, the classification unit
  1  7 shall determine the parental status of inmates, and, as
  1  8 appropriate and utilizing resources and forms available
  1  9 through the child support recovery unit established pursuant
  1 10 to section 252B.2, shall analyze the child support obligations
  1 11 of inmates and assist inmates with application to the child
  1 12 support recovery unit for temporary modification of child
  1 13 support orders.
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill requires that as part of the orientation and
  1 16 classification of inmates, the classification unit of the Iowa
  1 17 medical and classification center at Oakdale shall determine
  1 18 the parental status of inmates, and, as appropriate and
  1 19 utilizing resources and forms available through the child
  1 20 support recovery unit established pursuant to Code section
  1 21 252B.2, shall analyze the child support obligations of inmates
  1 22 and assist inmates with application to the child support
  1 23 recovery unit for temporary modification of child support
  1 24 orders.
