1 An Act making an appropriation to the department of justice for
2 the development of a domestic violence brochure regarding the
3 effects of domestic violence.

1 1 Section 1. VICTIM ASSISTANCE GRANTS. There is
1 2 appropriated from the general fund of the state to the
1 3 department of justice for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
1 4 2006, and ending June 30, 2007, the following amount, or so
1 5 much thereof as is necessary, to be used for the purpose
1 6 designated:
1 7 For the development and dissemination of a brochure to
1 8 educate landlords and property managers regarding the dangers
1 9 of domestic violence:
1 10 .................................................. $ 15,000
1 11 The brochure shall include a message to landlords and
1 12 property managers about the potential damage to their property
1 13 as a result of domestic violence and unwanted publicity
1 14 surrounding such violence as well as encouraging landlords and
1 15 property managers to allow a victim of domestic violence to
1 16 relocate, if necessary, to avoid further domestic violence
1 17 without losing their security deposit.
1 18 The brochure shall be made available for distribution at
1 19 landlord or property management association meetings, domestic
1 20 violence organizations, and other relevant organizations or
1 21 governmental entities.
1 22 EXPLANATION
1 23 This bill makes an appropriation to the department of
1 24 justice for the development of a domestic violence brochure
1 25 regarding the effects of domestic violence.
1 26 The bill appropriates $15,000 from the general fund of the
1 27 state to the department of justice for fiscal year 2006=2007
1 28 to be used for the development and dissemination of a brochure
1 29 to educate landlords and property managers regarding the
1 30 dangers of domestic violence.
1 31 Under the bill the brochure shall include a message to
1 32 landlords and property managers about the potential damage to
1 33 their property as a result of domestic violence and unwanted
1 34 publicity surrounding such violence, as well as encouraging
1 35 landlords and property managers to allow a victim of domestic
2 1 violence to relocate, if necessary, to avoid further domestic
2 2 violence without losing their security deposit.
