  1  1    Section 1.  Section 137.3, Code 2005, is amended to read as
  1  2 follows:
  1  3    137.3  COUNTY BOARD.
  1  4    The county board of health in each county shall consist of
  1  5 an odd number of members, having at least five members and no
  1  6 more than eleven members, at least one of whom shall be
  1  7 licensed in Iowa as a doctor of medicine and surgery or as an
  1  8 osteopathic physician and surgeon, as defined by law.
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill allows a county board of supervisors to appoint
  1 11 additional members to the county board of health.  Currently,
  1 12 a county board of health is to consist of five members.  The
  1 13 bill provides for an odd number of members with a minimum of
  1 14 five and a maximum of 11 members.  A city having a population
  1 15 of 25,000 or more may appoint a city board of health in the
  1 16 same manner as the county.
