  1 An Act requiring the issuance of a free lifetime hunting and
  2    fishing combined license, hunting license, or fishing license
  3    to certain veterans who were disabled or were prisoners of
  4    war.

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 483A.24, subsection 13, Code Supplement
  1  2 2005, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    13.  Upon payment of the fee of thirty dollars for The
  1  4 department shall issue without charge a special lifetime
  1  5 hunting and fishing combined license, the department shall
  1  6 issue a hunting and fishing combined license hunting license,
  1  7 or fishing license to a resident of Iowa who served in the
  1  8 armed forces of the United States for a minimum aggregate of
  1  9 ninety days of active federal service and who was disabled or
  1 10 was a prisoner of war during that veteran's military service.
  1 11 The department shall prepare an application to be used by a
  1 12 person requesting a hunting and fishing combined license,
  1 13 hunting license, or fishing license under this subsection.
  1 14 The department of veterans affairs shall assist the department
  1 15 in verifying the status or claims of applicants under this
  1 16 subsection.  As used in this subsection, "disabled" means
  1 17 entitled to compensation under the United States Code, Title
  1 18 38, ch. 11.
  1 19                           EXPLANATION
  1 20    This bill requires the department of natural resources to
  1 21 issue without charge and upon request, a special lifetime
  1 22 hunting and fishing combined license, hunting license, or
  1 23 fishing license to an Iowa resident who served in the armed
  1 24 forces of the United States for a minimum aggregate of 90 days
  1 25 of active federal service and who was disabled or was a
  1 26 prisoner of war during that veteran's military service.
  1 27 Currently, a lifetime hunting and fishing combined license is
  1 28 available for a fee of $30.
