1 1 Section 1. Section 483A.24, subsection 6, Code Supplement
1 2 2005, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 6. a. A license shall not be required of minor pupils of
1 4 the state school for the blind, state school for the deaf, or
1 5 of minor residents of other state institutions under the
1 6 control of an administrator of a division of the department of
1 7 human services. In addition, a
1 8 b. A person who is on active duty with the armed forces of
1 9 the United States, on authorized leave from a duty station
1 10 located outside of this state, and a resident of the state of
1 11 Iowa shall not be required to have a license to hunt or fish
1 12 in this state. The military person shall carry the person's
1 13 leave papers and a copy of the person's current earnings
1 14 statement showing a deduction for Iowa income taxes active
1 15 duty identification card while hunting or fishing. In lieu of
1 16 carrying the person's earnings statement, the military person
1 17 may also claim residency if the person is registered to vote
1 18 in this state. If a deer or wild turkey is taken, the
1 19 military person shall immediately contact a state conservation
1 20 officer to obtain an appropriate tag to transport the animal.
1 21 c. A license shall not be required of residents of county
1 22 care facilities or any person who is receiving old=age
1 23 assistance under chapter 249.
1 24 EXPLANATION
1 25 This bill exempts active duty military personnel from
1 26 hunting and fishing license requirements in the state.
1 27 The bill provides that such a military person is not
1 28 required to have a license to hunt or fish in this state. The
1 29 bill requires such a military person to carry the person's
1 30 active duty identification card while hunting or fishing.
1 31 Currently, a person must be a resident of Iowa who is on
1 32 active duty with the armed forces of the United States and who
1 33 is on authorized leave from a duty station located outside of
1 34 this state to hunt or fish without a license. Such a person
1 35 is also required to carry the person's leave papers and either
2 1 a copy of the person's current earnings statement showing a
2 2 deduction for Iowa income taxes or a form showing that the
2 3 person is registered to vote in this state.
