  1  1    Section 1.  Section 155A.27, subsection 2, Code 2005, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1  3    NEW PARAGRAPH.  c.  The practitioner and pharmacy shall
  1  4 comply with rules adopted by the board specifically for
  1  5 electronic prescription drug orders.  The rules shall be
  1  6 consistent with federal law and regulations relating to
  1  7 electronic prescriptions, including but not limited to federal
  1  8 Medicare electronic prescription drug program standards
  1  9 established pursuant to Title I of the federal Medicare
  1 10 Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003,
  1 11 Pub. L. No. 108=173.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill requires that electronic prescription drug orders
  1 14 issued by practitioners and filled by a pharmacy comply with
  1 15 the rules adopted by the board of pharmacy examiners
  1 16 specifically for such orders.  The rules are to be consistent
  1 17 with federal law and regulations relating to electronic
  1 18 prescriptions, including the standards established for the
  1 19 Medicare electronic prescription drug program under the
  1 20 Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act
  1 21 of 2003.
