  1  1    Section 1.  Section 15E.233, subsection 3, unnumbered
  1  2 paragraph 1, Code Supplement 2005, is amended to read as
  1  3 follows:
  1  4    An economic enterprise area shall consist of at least one
  1  5 county containing no city with a population of more than
  1  6 twenty=three twenty=seven thousand five hundred and shall meet
  1  7 at least three two of the following criteria:
  1  8    Sec. 2.  Section 155E.233, subsection 3, paragraph d, Code
  1  9 Supplement 2005, is amended by striking the paragraph.
  1 10                           EXPLANATION
  1 11    This bill relates to criteria for economic enterprise
  1 12 areas.
  1 13    Currently, an economic development region may apply to the
  1 14 department of economic development for approval to be
  1 15 designated as an economic enterprise area.  The department is
  1 16 limited to approving not more than 10 economic enterprise
  1 17 areas.  Currently, an economic enterprise area must consist of
  1 18 at least one county containing no city with a population of
  1 19 more than 23,500 and must meet at least three specified
  1 20 criteria.
  1 21    The bill increases the population limit from 23,500 to
  1 22 27,500, reduces the number of specified criteria that must be
  1 23 met from three to two, and eliminates one specified criteria
  1 24 relating to population density in the economic enterprise
  1 25 area.
