  1  1    Section 1.  GULF WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL == PLANNING AND
  1  2 CONSTRUCTION APPROPRIATION.  There is appropriated from the
  1  3 general fund of the state to the department of administrative
  1  4 services for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2006, and
  1  5 ending June 30, 2007, the following amount, or so much thereof
  1  6 as is necessary, to be used for the purpose designated:
  1  7    To provide for the planning, siting, and construction of a
  1  8 gulf war veterans memorial:
  1  9 .................................................. $     50,000
  1 10    The capitol planning commission, in consultation with the
  1 11 Iowa department of veterans affairs, is responsible for the
  1 12 planning and siting of a gulf war veterans memorial on the
  1 13 state capitol complex.  The gulf war veterans memorial is
  1 14 intended to commemorate those Iowans who died in operation
  1 15 desert storm, operation Iraqi freedom, or operation enduring
  1 16 freedom.
  1 17                           EXPLANATION
  1 18    This bill appropriates $50,000 to the department of
  1 19 administrative services for the planning, siting, and
  1 20 construction of a gulf war veterans memorial.  The memorial is
  1 21 to honor those Iowans who died in the first gulf war,
  1 22 (operation desert storm), or during the current conflict in
  1 23 Iraq (operation Iraqi freedom) or Afghanistan (operation
  1 24 enduring freedom).  The bill provides that the capitol
  1 25 planning commission, in consultation with the department of
  1 26 veterans affairs, is responsible for the planning and siting
  1 27 of the memorial on the state capitol complex.
