  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  249H.6A  GRANTS == ADDITIONAL
  1 2 SERVICES.
1 3 In addition to any other grants awarded under this chapter,
1 4 the department of human services, at the direction of the
1 5 senior living coordinating unit, may also use moneys
1 6 appropriated to the department from the senior living trust
1 7 fund to award grants, of not more than one hundred thousand
1 8 dollars per grant, to health care facilities as defined in
1 9 section 135C.1, to provide adult day services, child care for
1 10 children with special needs, safe shelter for victims of
1 11 dependent adult abuse, services for persons with mental or
1 12 physical disabilities, or respite care. The department of
1 13 human services shall adopt rules for the awarding of grants
  1 14 under this section.
  1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill provides for the use of moneys appropriated to
1 17 the department of human services from the senior living trust
1 18 fund for the awarding of grants. Current law, which is
1 19 repealed effective June 30, 2005, provides for the awarding of
1 20 grants of not more than $100,000 to licensed nursing
1 21 facilities that are awarded conversion grants to be used in
1 22 also providing adult day services, child care for children
1 23 with special needs, safe shelter for victims of dependent
1 24 adult abuse, or respite care. The bill would instead provide
1 25 for the awarding of grants of not more than $100,000 to health
1 26 care facilities as defined in Code section 135C.1 (residential
1 27 care facilities, nursing facilities, intermediate care
1 28 facilities for persons with mental illness, or intermediate
1 29 care facilities for persons with mental retardation) to
1 30 provide, in addition to the services already included in
1 31 current law, services for persons with mental or physical
  1 32 disabilities.
