1 1 Section 1. Section 321.466, subsection 2, Code 2005, is
1 2 amended to read as follows:
1 3 2. During or after the seventh month of a current
1 4 registration year, the The owner of a motor truck, truck
1 5 tractor, road tractor, semitrailer, or trailer that has been
1 6 registered for the current registration year may, if the
1 7 owner's operation has not resulted in a conviction or action
1 8 pending under this section, increase the gross weight of the
1 9 vehicle to a higher gross weight classification by payment of
1 10 one=twelfth of the difference between the annual fee for the
1 11 higher gross weight and the amount of the fee for the gross
1 12 weight at which it the vehicle is registered, multiplied by
1 13 the number of unexpired months of the registration year.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill provides that the gross weight registration of a
1 16 motor truck, truck tractor, road tractor, semitrailer, or
1 17 trailer may be increased at any time during the registration
1 18 year by payment of one=twelfth of the difference between the
1 19 annual fee for the higher gross weight and the amount of the
1 20 fee for the weight at which the vehicle is currently
1 21 registered, multiplied by the number of months remaining in
1 22 the registration year. Current law provides for increased
1 23 gross weight registration by payment of the difference between
1 24 the higher annual registration fee and the current annual
1 25 registration fee, but does not allow proration of the annual
1 26 fee until the seventh month of the registration year.
