1 An Act prohibiting consideration of certain traffic accidents
2 occurring in the course of an Iowa state patrol member's
3 employment in establishment of motor vehicle insurance rates.

1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 516B.4 CERTAIN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
1 2 INVOLVING IOWA STATE PATROL MEMBERS NOT CONSIDERED WHEN
1 3 ESTABLISHING RATES.
1 4 The commissioner shall require that insurance companies
1 5 transacting business in this state not consider traffic
1 6 accidents that occur while in the course of a person's
1 7 employment as a member of the Iowa state patrol under chapter
1 8 80, for the purpose of establishing rates for motor vehicle
1 9 insurance charged by the insurer for that person and shall
1 10 require that insurance companies not cancel or refuse to renew
1 11 any such policy of that person for such traffic accidents.
1 12 The commissioner shall adopt rules to define a traffic
1 13 accident that occurs while in the course of a person's
1 14 employment as a member of the Iowa state patrol.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill prohibits insurance companies transacting
1 17 business in this state from considering traffic accidents that
1 18 occur while in the course of a person's employment as a member
1 19 of the Iowa state patrol under Code chapter 80, for the
1 20 purpose of establishing rates for motor vehicle insurance
1 21 charged by the insurer for that person and prohibits insurance
1 22 companies from canceling or refusing to renew any such policy
1 23 of that person because of such traffic accidents. The bill
1 24 directs the commissioner to adopt rules defining a traffic
1 25 accident that occurs while in the course of a person's
1 26 employment as a member of the Iowa state patrol.
