PAG LIN

  1 1 Section 1. Section 149.5, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code
1 2 2003, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 A license to practice podiatry shall not authorize the
1 4 licensee to amputate the human foot or use any general
1 5 anesthetics other than local.
  1 6 EXPLANATION
1 7 This bill provides for a change in language contained in
1 8 Code section 149.5 regarding the administration of anesthetics
1 9 by a podiatrist. Currently, Code section 149.5 provides that
1 10 a podiatrist shall not be authorized to utilize any
1 11 anesthetics other than local anesthetics. In response to some
1 12 ambiguity regarding the scope of the term "local" anesthetics,
1 13 the bill changes the way the provision is phrased, to clarify
1 14 that a podiatrist is not authorized to administer general
  1 15 anesthetics.
