  1 An Act relating to a review of statistical information compiled
  2    by the board of educational examiners from Praxis II
  3    examinations administered to initial, provisional teaching
  4    license applicants.

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 284.12, subsection 4, Code 2003, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    4.  The board of educational examiners shall compile
  1  4 statistical information from the results of the examinations
  1  5 administered pursuant to section 272.2, subsection 16, Code
  1  6 2003.  The information compiled shall identify the
  1  7 practitioner preparation programs from which the applicants
  1  8 graduated, but shall not identify applicants individually.
  1  9 The statistical information compiled by the board pursuant to
  1 10 this subsection is a public record.  The board shall submit a
  1 11 review of the statistical information to the chairpersons and
  1 12 ranking members of the senate and house committees on
  1 13 education and the state board by December 1, 2003 January 15,
  1 14 2004.  This subsection is repealed effective June 30, 2004.
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill extends the date by which the board of
  1 17 educational examiners is required to submit a one=time report
  1 18 to members of the general assembly and the state board of
  1 19 education regarding the results of Praxis II examinations
  1 20 administered by the board of educational examiners to
  1 21 individuals applying for an initial, provisional teaching
  1 22 license.  The Praxis II examination measures an individual's
  1 23 knowledge of pedagogies and content area.
  1 24    The bill includes a technical change to identify the Iowa
  1 25 Code edition that requires the board of educational examiners
  1 26 to administer the examination.  The bill also provides for the
  1 27 repeal of the Code subsection requiring the report effective
  1 28 June 30, 2004.
