  2 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 331.602, subsection 33, Code 2003, is
  1  2 amended by striking the subsection.
  1  3    Sec. 2.  Section 331.607, subsection 6, Code 2003, is
  1  4 amended to read as follows:
  1  5    6.  A register record of the names and descriptions of
  1  6 farms as provided in section 557.22.
  1  7    Sec. 3.  Section 557.22, Code 2003, is amended to read as
  1  8 follows:
  1  9    557.22  AUTHORIZATION == CERTIFICATE.
  1 10    Any owner of a farm in the state may have the name of that
  1 11 farm, together with a description of the owner's lands to
  1 12 which said the name applies, recorded in a register kept for
  1 13 that purpose in the office of the county recorder of the
  1 14 county in which said the farm is located.
  1 15    Such recorder shall furnish to such landowner a proper
  1 16 certificate setting forth said name and a description of such
  1 17 lands.
  1 18    Sec. 4.  Section 607A.9, Code 2003, is amended to read as
  1 19 follows:
  1 20    607A.9  EX OFFICIO COMMISSIONS.
  1 21    In counties utilizing a jury commission for the drawing of
  1 22 jurors, the clerk of the district court, and the county
  1 23 auditor, and the county recorder shall ex officio constitute
  1 24 the jury commission but shall receive no extra compensation
  1 25 for acting as jury commissioners.  If any of the above offices
  1 26 have been consolidated, the chief judge of the judicial
  1 27 district shall select another elected county officer to serve
  1 28 as a jury commissioner.
  1 29                           EXPLANATION
  1 30    This bill modifies certain duties of county recorders.  The
  1 31 bill removes the requirement that information recorded by the
  1 32 county recorder relating to farms be kept in a register kept
  1 33 for that purpose or that the county recorder issue owners of
  1 34 farms a certificate setting forth the owner's name and a
  1 35 description of the land.  The bill also removes the
  2  1 requirement that the county recorder serve as a member of the
  2  2 jury commission to draw jurors.
