  1  1               SENATE RESOLUTION NO.     
  1  2                      BY  WARNSTADT
  1  3 A Resolution honoring Mr. Larry Kisor for his
  1  4    success in directing the Sioux City North High
  1  5    School Jazz Band.
  1  6    WHEREAS, Sioux City North High School has a
  1  7 marching band, concert band, and jazz band, which are
  1  8 all known for great performances, and many awards and
  1  9 honors; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, as director of the North Jazz Band, Mr.
  1 11 Kisor has established a reputation for extremely high=
  1 12 quality jazz performances; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, Mr. Kisor has consistently shown
  1 14 leadership in developing the musical talent of the
  1 15 students of North High School, culminating in the
  1 16 receipt of many individual and group awards and
  1 17 honors; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, the North Jazz Band gains in popularity
  1 19 and reputation every year; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, Mr. Kisor has also shown leadership in the
  1 21 field of jazz, serving as a judge for jazz
  1 22 competitions; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, the North Jazz Band has participated in at
  1 24 least six state or regional jazz festivals or
  1 25 competitions in 2003, including the Iowa Jazz
  1 26 Championships; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, the Iowa Jazz Championships is recognized
  1 28 as the single largest jazz competition in the country;
  1 29 and
  1 30    WHEREAS, under the direction of Mr. Kisor, the
  2  1 Sioux City North High School Jazz Band has placed
  2  2 either first or second in the Iowa Jazz Championships
  2  3 every year since 1988, including another second place
  2  4 finish in 2003; NOW THEREFORE,
  2  5    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honor
  2  6 Mr. Larry Kisor for his high achievement in leading
  2  7 the Sioux City North High School Jazz Band to first or
  2  8 second place finishes in the state jazz championships
  2  9 14 of the last 16 years; and
  2 10    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate express
  2 11 gratitude to Mr. Larry Kisor for the years of
  2 12 dedication and investment of time and talent in the
  2 13 youth of Sioux City, for which the musical heritage of
  2 14 the state is richer; and
  2 15    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
  2 16 Secretary of the Senate shall prepare an official copy
  2 17 of this Resolution for presentation to Mr. Larry
  2 18 Kisor.
