Senate Resolution 177 PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY GRONSTAL 1 3 A Resolution honoring the Iowa National Guard's 132nd 1 4 Fighter Wing school=to=work internship program with 1 5 Des Moines Central Campus's Aviation Technology 1 6 program. 1 7 WHEREAS, the Iowa National Guard's 132nd Fighter 1 8 Wing school=to=work internship program with Des Moines 1 9 Central Campus's Aviation Technology program began six 1 10 years ago with the help of now Brigadier General Joe 1 11 Lucas and Lieutenant Colonel Joe Robinson, as well as 1 12 with Central Campus Director Dr. Gary McClanahan and 1 13 Aviation Department Chair Jerry Bradley; and 1 14 WHEREAS, the student qualifications for the 1 15 internship program include senior status and two years 1 16 in the aviation program at Central Campus, passing a 1 17 general aviation exam, attendance of 97 percent or 1 18 better, a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA, and an 1 19 interview with guard personnel; and 1 20 WHEREAS, the program involved eight students in its 1 21 first year and now has grown to 16 students 1 22 participating each year; and 1 23 WHEREAS, the participating students this year 1 24 include Tim Allie, John C. Baker, Tyler C. Bartels, 1 25 Kevin J. Beckley, Joseph E. Chandler, James E. Doro, 1 26 Dustin L. Holmes, Matthew J. Howe, Jeremiah D. 1 27 Lindstrom, Kiel Middleswart, Daniel Murphy, Adam J. 1 28 Nelson, Melinda Sicanica, Joe Stickel, Mike 1 29 Stockbauer, and Stephen C. Waltz; and 1 30 WHEREAS, the participating Aviation Technology 2 1 students attend the program for 15 weeks during the 2 2 spring semester of their senior year, and during this 2 3 time work with guard personnel in all departments 2 4 representing the 132nd Fighter Wing, including the 2 5 engine shop, avionics, weapons, operations, 2 6 fabrication, and fire and rescue; and 2 7 WHEREAS, students are provided with necessary 2 8 equipment, including special jumpsuits, jackets, and 2 9 boots, and have the opportunity for training with 2 10 actual F=16 aircraft and are the only high school 2 11 students in the nation who are afforded this 2 12 opportunity; and 2 13 WHEREAS, many internship program students have gone 2 14 on to successful careers in the military services, the 2 15 reserves, and the guard, and have received entry 2 16 promotions to higher ranks because of the internship 2 17 program training received; NOW THEREFORE, 2 18 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 2 19 congratulates the Iowa National Guard's 132nd Fighter 2 20 Wing school=to=work internship program and Des Moines 2 21 Central Campus's Aviation Technology program, thanking 2 22 the men and women of the 132nd Fighter Wing who take 2 23 ownership in the training of these young individuals, 2 24 and through their mentorship, guidance, teaching, 2 25 patience, and mastery, play an integral part in 2 26 allowing these students to achieve not only in the 2 27 aviation internship program but also in life; and 2 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an 2 29 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2 30 presentation to the Iowa National Guard's 132nd 3 1 Fighter Wing school=to=work internship program 3 2 represented by Lieutenant Colonel Dyann Edwards, 3 3 Colonel Greg Schwab, Colonel Steve Van Every, and 3 4 Technical Sergeant Rob Maroc, as well as to Dr. Eric 3 5 Witherspoon, Linda Lane, and Tom Drake, Administrators 3 6 of Des Moines Public Schools; Dr. Gary McClanahan, 3 7 Director of Central Campus; Erin Stoen, CTI 3 8 Coordinator; Ric Graves, Instructor, and Jerry 3 9 Bradley, Aviation Department Chair. 3 10 LSB 7098SS 80 3 11 rj/cf/24
