Senate Resolution 175 PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1 2 BY HOUSER, SCHUERER, and BEALL 1 3 A Resolution requesting the establishment of an interim 1 4 study committee to examine issues relating to 1 5 renewable energy. 1 6 WHEREAS, Iowa has an abundant amount of corn, wind, 1 7 and other renewable energy resources; and 1 8 WHEREAS, the need to explore renewable energy 1 9 options is of paramount importance particularly in 1 10 light of current high fuel prices; NOW THEREFORE, 1 11 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the legislative 1 12 council is requested to establish a study committee to 1 13 meet during the 2004 legislative interim to consider 1 14 options for using renewable energy for economic 1 15 development. 1 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the interim study 1 17 committee should divide into subcommittees to focus on 1 18 electricity generation, co=generation, and use of 1 19 ethanol and alternative fuels and should include the 1 20 following members: 1 21 1. Ten members of the general assembly. 1 22 2. A representative of the Iowa energy center. 1 23 3. A representative of the Iowa utility board. 1 24 4. A representative of the department of natural 1 25 resources. 1 26 5. Two representatives of investor=owned 1 27 utilities. 1 28 6. A representative of a municipal utility. 1 29 7. A representative of the Iowa agribusiness 1 30 association. 2 1 8. A representative of the Iowa farm bureau. 2 2 9. A representative of a joint action agency 2 3 organized under Code chapter 28E representing 2 4 communities in this state that receive 2 5 hydroelectricity from the Missouri River or the 2 6 Mississippi River and is involved in wholesale 2 7 electric generation. 2 8 10. A representative of the alliance of automobile 2 9 manufacturers. 2 10 11. A representative of an investor=owned ethanol 2 11 fuel plant. 2 12 12. A representative of a farmer=owned cooperative 2 13 ethanol fuel plant. 2 14 13. A representative of the petroleum marketers of 2 15 Iowa. 2 16 14.
