  1  2    BY  BOLKCOM, GRONSTAL, CONNOLLY, DVORSKY, HATCH,
  1  3     BEALL, QUIRMBACH, WARNSTADT, COURTNEY, KREIMAN,
  1  4 KIBBIE, SENG, BLACK, RAGAN, HOLVECK, STEWART, DOTZLER,
  1  5            DEARDEN, HORN, FRAISE, and McCOY
  1  6 A Resolution identifying problems of Iowans in
  1  7    meeting health care costs and calling upon candidates
  1  8    for national office to provide proposals for
  1  9    addressing the health care needs of Iowans and the
  1 10    people of the United States.
  1 11    WHEREAS, quality health care is quickly becoming
  1 12 too costly for thousands of Iowans; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, 70 percent of Iowans without health
  1 14 insurance have a family member who is employed full=
  1 15 time; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, the health care costs of Iowa families
  1 17 have increased by an average of 36 percent over the
  1 18 past three years; and
  1 19    WHEREAS, these problems exist for citizens
  1 20 throughout the United States; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 21    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the candidates
  1 22 for national political office when present in this
  1 23 state will be asked to provide their proposals for
  1 24 addressing health coverage needs; and
  1 25    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will
  1 26 also be asked to identify how their proposals will
  1 27 provide an affordable, basic health care plan for
  1 28 everyone living in the United States that is similar
  1 29 to the basic plan available to federal employees; and
  1 30    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will be
  2  1 asked to identify how their proposals will ensure that
  2  2 everyone living in the United States, including but
  2  3 not limited to employers, consumers, and local, state,
  2  4 and federal governments, can make a responsible and
  2  5 fair contribution to the cost of the health care plan;
  2  6 and
  2  7    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will be
  2  8 asked to identify how their proposals will ensure that
  2  9 everyone living in the United States will receive
  2 10 health care coverage that is cost and medically
  2 11 effective; and
  2 12    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the candidates will be
  2 13 asked to address how their proposals will control
  2 14 health care costs.
