  1  2      BY  BRUNKHORST, REHBERG, HOUSER, and DOTZLER
  1  3 A Resolution recognizing and congratulating the
  1  4    Wartburg College 2003 Men's and Women's
  1  5    Cross=Country Teams and the Wartburg College
  1  6    2003=2004 Wrestling Team.
  1  7    WHEREAS, Iowans are proud and honored to recognize
  1  8 the accomplishments of the Wartburg College 2003 Men's
  1  9 and Women's Cross=Country Teams and the Wartburg
  1 10 College 2003=2004 Wrestling Team; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the Wartburg Knights Men's and Women's
  1 12 Cross=Country Teams competed in the NCAA Division III
  1 13 cross=country meet on November 22, 2003, on the campus
  1 14 of Hanover College in Indiana, tallied six All=
  1 15 Americans, and claimed the individual championships in
  1 16 both the men's and women's races for the first time in
  1 17 NCAA Division III cross=country history; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, Josh Moen, a junior, and the son of Greg
  1 19 and Sue Moen of Fairbank, won the individual men's
  1 20 title in the eight=kilometer race with a time of
  1 21 twenty=four minutes and forty=three and four=tenths
  1 22 seconds, completing the race almost thirty seconds
  1 23 faster than the second=place finisher; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, Missy Buttry, the defending national
  1 25 Division III women's champion, a junior, and the
  1 26 daughter of Don and Pam Buttry of Shenandoah, retained
  1 27 her title in the six=kilometer race with a course=
  1 28 record=shattering time of twenty minutes and two=
  1 29 tenths of a second, finishing the race more than one
  1 30 minute faster than the second=place finisher; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, Missy Buttry was named U.S.A. Track and
  2  2 Field's Athlete of the Week after winning her first
  2  3 career U.S. Open title in the women's six=kilometer
  2  4 race on December 7, 2003, at the 2003 U.S.A. Track and
  2  5 Field National Cross=Country Championships in
  2  6 Greensboro, North Carolina; and
  2  7    WHEREAS, Missy Buttry qualified for the World
  2  8 Cross=Country Team after placing fourth in the four=
  2  9 kilometer event at the United States Championships on
  2 10 February 8, 2004, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and also
  2 11 placed 60th at the International Association of
  2 12 Athletics Federation World Cross=Country Championships
  2 13 in Brussels, Belgium, on March 21, 2004, helping to
  2 14 lead the U.S. Senior Women's Four=Kilometer Team to a
  2 15 seventh place finish; and
  2 16    WHEREAS, the defending champion, the 2003=2004
  2 17 Wartburg Knights Wrestling Team, won its fourth team
  2 18 title since 1996 and its second consecutive NCAA
  2 19 Division III National Championship on March 6, 2004,
  2 20 at the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, with a total of
  2 21 156.5 points, overcoming the runner=up by 16 points;
  2 22 and
  2 23    WHEREAS, the Wartburg Knights Wrestling Team with
  2 24 their "Fab Four" tied a national record by winning
  2 25 four individual championships at the March 6, 2004,
  2 26 meet, increasing the total number of individual
  2 27 champions in the Wartburg wrestling program to 19, the
  2 28 sixth best record in NCAA Division III wrestling
  2 29 history, and ended the tourney with nine All=
  2 30 Americans, increasing the program's total to 109; and
  3  1    WHEREAS, Dustin Hinschberger, a sophomore, and the
  3  2 son of Kurt and Terri Jo Hinschberger of Belle Plaine,
  3  3 is the national Division III champion at 141 pounds;
  3  4 and
  3  5    WHEREAS, Bart Mehlert, a senior, and the son of
  3  6 Larry and Deb Mehlert of La Porte City, is the
  3  7 national Division III champion at 149 pounds; and
  3  8    WHEREAS, Ryan Sturm, a junior, and the son of
  3  9 Richard and Katherine Sturm of Armstrong, is the
  3 10 national Division III champion at 184 pounds; and
  3 11    WHEREAS, Akeem Carter, a sophomore, and the son of
  3 12 Louis and Nancy Carter of Waterloo, is the national
  3 13 Division III champion at 197 pounds; NOW THEREFORE,
  3 14    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  3 15 congratulates the 2003 Wartburg College Men's and
  3 16 Women's Cross=Country Teams and their coach, Steve
  3 17 Johnson, on their extraordinary performance and wishes
  3 18 them continued success in all of their future
  3 19 endeavors; and
  3 20    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate
  3 21 congratulates the 2003=2004 Wartburg College Wrestling
  3 22 Team and its coach, Jim Miller, on their superb
  3 23 performance and wishes them continued success in all
  3 24 of their future endeavors; and
  3 25    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That official copies of
  3 26 this Resolution be prepared by the Secretary of the
  3 27 Senate and presented to the president of Wartburg
  3 28 College, to each member of the Wartburg College Men's
  3 29 and Women's Cross=Country Teams, to each member of the
  3 30 Wartburg College Wrestling Team, and to their coaches.
