Senate Resolution 120 PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY REDFERN and DOTZLER 1 3 A Resolution to honor the First Judicial District 1 4 Department of Correctional Services for receiving 1 5 the exemplary offender program award. 1 6 WHEREAS, in 1998, the First Judicial District 1 7 Department of Correctional Services instituted the 1 8 dual diagnosis offender program at the Waterloo 1 9 residential facility to treat male offenders suffering 1 10 from both mental health and substance abuse disorders; 1 11 and 1 12 WHEREAS, treatment in the dual diagnosis offender 1 13 program focuses upon enhancing the potential of the 1 14 offender by facilitating the establishment of a law= 1 15 abiding lifestyle with a stabilized mental condition 1 16 free of chemical dependency; and 1 17 WHEREAS, on January 14, 2004, the American 1 18 Correctional Association presented the exemplary 1 19 offender program award to the First Judicial District 1 20 Department of Correctional Services in recognition of 1 21 its demonstrated success through the dual diagnosis 1 22 offender program; and 1 23 WHEREAS, Thomas Bonefas, Cheryl Meyer, Ken 1 24 Kolthoff, Patti Smilanich, Ross Todd, Mike Schreck, 1 25 Helen Kemp, and Dick Graham are recognized for their 1 26 contribution and dedication to the dual diagnosis 1 27 offender program; NOW THEREFORE, 1 28 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate 1 29 recognize and honor the First Judicial District 1 30 Department of Correctional Services for its success 2 1 with the dual diagnosis offender program and its 2 2 receipt of the exemplary offender program award; and 2 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the 2 4 Secretary of the Senate shall prepare official copies 2 5 of this Resolution and send it to Gary Maynard, 2 6 Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections, and to 2 7 Daniel Craig, District Director of the First Judicial 2 8 District Department of Correctional Services. 2 9 LSB 6535SS 80 2 10 kk/pj/5
