  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  280.28  MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
  1  2 COMMISSION DISCLOSURE.
  1  3    1.  Every teacher employed by the board of directors of a
  1  4 school district or the authorities in charge of a nonpublic
  1  5 school who receives a commission from a manufacturer,
  1  6 distributor, wholesaler, retailer, or distributing agent or
  1  7 agent of musical instruments for the sale of musical
  1  8 instruments shall disclose the identity of the parties with
  1  9 whom an arrangement for compensation exists to the principal
  1 10 of the teacher's attendance center or school not later than
  1 11 August 1 annually.
  1 12    2.  Prior to the first day of the school calendar, the
  1 13 principal shall notify the parent or guardian of a pupil
  1 14 enrolled or otherwise participating in a music course,
  1 15 program, or extracurricular activity taught or supervised by
  1 16 the teacher of the teacher's compensation arrangement, the
  1 17 name of the teacher who receives a commission from a
  1 18 manufacturer, distributor, wholesaler, retailer, or
  1 19 distributing agent or agent for the sale of musical
  1 20 instruments, and with whom the compensation arrangement
  1 21 exists.
  1 22                           EXPLANATION
  1 23    This bill directs teachers employed by school districts or
  1 24 accredited nonpublic schools who receive a commission for the
  1 25 sale of musical instruments to disclose the identity of the
  1 26 parties with whom the compensation arrangement exists to the
  1 27 principal of the attendance center or school by August 1.  The
  1 28 principal must, prior to the first day of school, notify the
  1 29 parent or guardian of a pupil participating in a music course,
  1 30 program, or extracurricular activity taught or supervised by
  1 31 the teacher of the commission arrangement and identify those
  1 32 who are party to the arrangement.
