  1 An Act relating to the funding of efforts to alleviate a public
  2    health emergency or disaster.
  3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 135.144, Code Supplement 2003, is
  1  2 amended by adding the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  11.  If a public health disaster or other
  1  4 public health emergency situation exists, the department, in
  1  5 conjunction with the governor, may provide financial
  1  6 assistance, from funds appropriated to the department that are
  1  7 not otherwise encumbered, to political subdivisions as needed
  1  8 to alleviate the disaster or the emergency.
  1  9                           EXPLANATION
  1 10    This bill gives the department of public health discretion
  1 11 to provide financial assistance to local governments in the
  1 12 event of a public health emergency or disaster.
