Senate Concurrent Resolution 19 PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___ 1 2 BY DOTZLER, REHBERG, HOSCH, SEYMOUR, McKINLEY, 1 3 WARNSTADT, DVORSKY, McKIBBEN, GASKILL, COURTNEY, 1 4 STEWART, and BEALL 1 5 A Concurrent Resolution relating to federal funding 1 6 for fire and emergency services and homeland security 1 7 costs. 1 8 WHEREAS, a threat continues to exist that 1 9 terrorists may initiate further attacks on the United 1 10 States; and 1 11 WHEREAS, local fire fighters, emergency medical 1 12 technicians, state and local law enforcement officers, 1 13 and other first responders will be the first to deal 1 14 with the consequences of terrorist attacks on the 1 15 United States; and 1 16 WHEREAS, Ellen Gordon, the Director of Iowa's 1 17 Emergency Management Division of the Department of 1 18 Public Defense and the head of Iowa's homeland 1 19 security efforts, has completed the preliminary 1 20 strategic planning to immediately put a portion of any 1 21 federal dollars obtained for fire and emergency 1 22 services and homeland security to use at the state and 1 23 local level in Iowa; NOW THEREFORE, 1 24 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF 1 25 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the General Assembly 1 26 of the State of Iowa supports efforts of Iowa's 1 27 congressional delegation to obtain federal moneys for 1 28 Iowa from federal fire and emergency service network 1 29 and training funds, police officer service network and 1 30 training funds, and other funds available or that 2 1 become available in federal homeland security 2 2 legislation; and 2 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this 2 4 Resolution be sent by the Secretary of the Senate to 2 5 the President of the United States, the President of 2 6 the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United 2 7 States House of Representatives, and to all members of 2 8 Iowa's congressional delegation. 2 9 LSB 3549SS 80 2 10 av/pj/5
