  1  4 A Concurrent Resolution recognizing the 35th anniversary
  1  5    of Iowa Public Television.
  1  6    WHEREAS, 2004 marks the 35th anniversary of Iowa
  1  7 Public Television, Iowa's only statewide,
  1  8 noncommercial resource for quality television
  1  9 programming; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, in 1969, the state of Iowa agreed to
  1 11 purchase channel 11, known then as KDPS=TV, and all of
  1 12 the station's equipment from the Des Moines School
  1 13 Board, changed the call letters to KDIN=TV, and
  1 14 created Iowa Public Television; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, Iowa Public Television is committed to its
  1 16 mission to educate, inform, enrich, and inspire
  1 17 Iowans; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, today, nearly one million viewers a week
  1 19 from all 99 counties and parts of all the neighboring
  1 20 states rely on Iowa Public Television to provide a
  1 21 safe place for children's television viewing and
  1 22 learning, to provide quality programming concerning
  1 23 Iowa issues, and to provide unique, interesting, and
  1 24 important programming for all Iowans, regardless of
  1 25 where they live or what they can afford; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, Iowa Public Television is the only
  1 27 television network in Iowa committed to serving the
  1 28 entire state with programming that specifically
  1 29 reflects Iowa's interests and responds to Iowa's
  1 30 needs; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, Iowans will receive enhanced service
  2  2 through Iowa Public Television's digital television
  2  3 offerings, allowing Iowans to learn more, be more
  2  4 informed, be more entertained, and be more inspired
  2  5 through high=definition, multicasting, and datacasting
  2  6 services; and
  2  7    WHEREAS, the services Iowa Public Television
  2  8 provides to Iowans are needed now more than ever in
  2  9 the current television broadcasting environment; NOW
  2 10 THEREFORE,
  2 11    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
  2 12 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the Iowa General
  2 13 Assembly recognizes the significant contributions made
  2 14 by Iowa Public Television to the people of Iowa over
  2 15 the past 35 years; and
  2 16    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Iowa General
  2 17 Assembly expresses the grateful appreciation of the
  2 18 state of Iowa for the many ways Iowa Public Television
  2 19 educates, informs, enriches, and inspires Iowans of
  2 20 all ages, all incomes, and all communities; and
  2 21    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of this
  2 22 Resolution, the Secretary of the Senate shall cause an
  2 23 official copy of this Resolution to be provided to
  2 24 Iowa Public Television.
