  1  3 A Resolution honoring the city of Buckeye on its
  1  4    centennial year.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the city of Buckeye in Hardin County,
  1  6 Iowa, was first platted in 1901, and incorporated on
  1  7 May 25, 1903; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, the city of Buckeye had 12 businesses and
  1  9 two churches by 1901, 19 additional businesses plus a
  1 10 railroad and post office by 1902, and seven more
  1 11 businesses by 1903; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, the business community of Buckeye now
  1 13 includes a farmers cooperative elevator, the Hawkeye
  1 14 Glove Factory, two beauty shops, and a fire department
  1 15 and first responders unit, and is home to the Peace
  1 16 United Church of Christ and St. Paul Evangelical
  1 17 Lutheran Church; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, the city of Buckeye has 110 residents, is
  1 19 the home of Cleo Reynolds's famous Ice Cream
  1 20 Lollipops, and the city's fire department won over 200
  1 21 trophies for water ball fighting in the 1970s despite
  1 22 never having a water tower on which to practice; and
  1 23    WHEREAS, the city of Buckeye will celebrate its
  1 24 centennial June 20=22, 2003, featuring a parade, car
  1 25 show, antique tractor pull, dancing tractors, dancing
  1 26 and music, fireworks, and baseball and volleyball
  1 27 tournaments; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 28    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 29 That the House of Representatives extends its
  1 30 congratulations to the city of Buckeye on its
  2  1 centennial anniversary year and for its 100 years of
  2  2 service to its citizens and to the State of Iowa; and
  2  3    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption, an
  2  4 official copy of this resolution be prepared and
  2  5 presented to the Honorable Sandra L. Berndt, Mayor of
  2  6 the city of Buckeye.
