  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.

  1  3 A Resolution honoring the city of Eldora on its
  1  4    sesquicentennial year.
  1  5    WHEREAS, the city of Eldora, first settled in 1850
  1  6 and platted in 1853, is celebrating its 150th
  1  7 anniversary; and
  1  8    WHEREAS, Mrs. Lois Beal Edgington, wife of Colonel
  1  9 Samuel R. Edgington, named the city of Eldora after
  1 10 her baby daughter who had died; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, the city of Eldora is the county seat of
  1 12 Hardin County, Iowa, and home to the Hardin County
  1 13 Courthouse which is on the National Registry of
  1 14 Historic Places; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, the city of Eldora is home to numerous
  1 16 businesses and century farms, has served as home to
  1 17 the Iowa State Training School for Boys since 1968,
  1 18 and is the home of Pine Lake State Park, enjoyed by
  1 19 thousands of Iowans annually, which contains Iowa's
  1 20 first man=made lake, Lower Pine Lake; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, the city of Eldora was the home of Boyd
  1 22 Underwood, son of Dr. and Mrs. Boyd Underwood, the
  1 23 first American casualty of the Spanish=American War,
  1 24 and was the home of former Lieutenant Governor Enoch
  1 25 W. Eastman, 1864=1866; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 26    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 27 That the House of Representatives recognizes and
  1 28 extends its congratulations to the city of Eldora on
  1 29 the city's sesquicentennial year and for its 150 years
  1 30 of service to its citizens and to the State of Iowa;
  2  1 and
  2  2    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon adoption an
  2  3 official copy of this Resolution shall be prepared and
  2  4 presented to the Honorable Timothy Hoy, Mayor of the
  2  5 city of Eldora.
