  1  3           (COMPANION TO LSB 2305SS BY FRAISE)
  1  4 A Resolution honoring Iowa Wesleyan College and its
  1  5    Responsible Social Involvement Program.
  1  6    WHEREAS, Iowa Wesleyan College, founded in 1842 in
  1  7 Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, is one of the oldest, private,
  1  8 coeducational colleges west of the Mississippi River;
  1  9 and
  1 10    WHEREAS, Iowa Wesleyan College has adopted a unique
  1 11 vision that focuses on integrating academic curriculum
  1 12 with the learning of real life skills through
  1 13 community service; and
  1 14    WHEREAS, on February 27, 2003, Iowa Wesleyan
  1 15 College will be celebrating one million hours of
  1 16 volunteer community service through the College's
  1 17 Responsible Social Involvement Program; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, as part of the Responsible Social
  1 19 Involvement Program, students at Iowa Wesleyan have
  1 20 contributed to meeting the needs of innumerable
  1 21 persons, assisted worthy organizations, and developed
  1 22 partnerships and programs in various communities,
  1 23 while granting the students academic credit and also
  1 24 providing them with hands=on experience that cannot be
  1 25 found in any textbook or classroom; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, the State of Iowa takes great pride in the
  1 27 success and achievements of the Responsible Social
  1 28 Involvement Program at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt.
  1 29 Pleasant, Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 30    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2  1 That the House of Representatives recognize and honor
  2  2 Iowa Wesleyan College for its contributions to the
  2  3 State of Iowa and to its students, and extend
  2  4 congratulations to Iowa Wesleyan College on one
  2  5 million hours of community service.
  2  6    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
  2  7 this resolution be prepared and presented to the
  2  8 President of Iowa Wesleyan College and representatives
  2  9 of the student body.
