OLSON, 1 7 UPMEYER, SANDS, KRAMER, PAULSEN, LUKAN, MANTERNACH, 1 8 VAN ENGELENHOVEN, ROBERTS, JONES, GREINER, BODDICKER, 1 9 HORBACH, DOLECHECK, HAHN, HUSEMAN, CHAMBERS, BAUDLER, 1 10 KLEMME, MERTZ, STRUYK, QUIRK, and DAVITT 1 11 A Resolution declaring February 12, 2004, Marriage and 1 12 Family Day. 1 13 WHEREAS, marriage and family are universal human 1 14 institutions which are the bedrocks of our society; 1 15 and 1 16 WHEREAS, a healthy marriage improves the lives of 1 17 the parties and provides a nurturing environment for 1 18 children; and 1 19 WHEREAS, good marriages and strong families are 1 20 developed through commitment, sacrifice, and hard 1 21 work; and 1 22 WHEREAS, the importance of marriage and family is 1 23 never more evident than when a loved one is absent, 1 24 such as during a time of war; and 1 25 WHEREAS, a great number of spouses and family 1 26 members have suffered the loss of loved ones during 1 27 this time of war, including our own fellow Iowans, 1 28 United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Jeffrey E. 1 29 Bohr; Army Private Michael J. Deutsch; Iowa Army 1 30 National Guard Sergeant Paul F. Fisher; Army Private 2 1 Kurt R. Frosheiser; Iowa Army National Guard Private 2 2 First Class David M. Kirchhoff; Army Specialist Joshua 2 3 Knowles; United States Marine Corps Reserve Sergeant 2 4 Bradley S. Korthaus; Army Private Kenneth A. Nalley; 2 5 Iowa Army National Guard Specialist Aaron J. Sissel; 2 6 and Iowa Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer 4 2 7 Bruce A. Smith; and 2 8 WHEREAS, these spouses and family members truly 2 9 recognize the value of their marital and familial 2 10 relationships; and 2 11 WHEREAS, it is important that, not only at the time 2 12 of absence or loss, society as a whole recognize the 2 13 importance of marriage and family; NOW THEREFORE, 2 14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 2 15 That February 12, 2004, be declared Marriage and 2 16 Family Day in recognition of the importance of these 2 17 institutions in the daily lives of Iowans; and 2 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of 2 19 Representatives on this day honors those spouses and 2 20 families who have suffered the loss of loved ones 2 21 during this time of war. 2 22 LSB 6324HH 80 2 23 pf/sh/8
