  1  1                HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.    
  1  2                  BY  WHITEAD AND WENDT
  1  3 A Resolution urging the federal government to provide
  1  4    better access to veterans facilities and services.
  1  5    WHEREAS, those who have served in the United States
  1  6 armed forces should be honored for their service; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, legislation has been enacted at the
  1  8 federal level promising access to the Veterans
  1  9 Administration (VA) hospital system for discharged
  1 10 veterans; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, thousands of Iowa veterans must wait for
  1 12 months to get appointments to regional VA hospitals;
  1 13 and
  1 14    WHEREAS, thousands of Iowa veterans are not getting
  1 15 their promised access to health care; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, thousands of Iowa veterans are being
  1 17 forced to wait for determination of their level of
  1 18 disability to receive health care because of the
  1 19 backlog at VA facilities; NOW THEREFORE,
  1 20    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  1 21 That the House of Representatives urges the federal
  1 22 government to immediately fulfill its promise to
  1 23 veterans in Iowa and across the country by providing
  1 24 the resources necessary to allow veterans appropriate
  1 25 access to local VA facilities and services in their
  1 26 communities; and
  1 27    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
  1 28 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
  1 29 prepare an official copy of this Resolution and send
  1 30 it to the members of Iowa's congressional delegation.
