  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  135C.34A  NURSE AIDE ==
  1  2 CERTIFICATION.
  1  3    In addition to any other training requirements established
  1  4 by the department by rule, a nurse aide training and
  1  5 competency evaluation program shall consist of and require no
  1  6 less than ninety clock hours of training by students prior to
  1  7 certification.  Upon receiving initial certification, a
  1  8 certified nurse aide shall receive a minimum of twelve hours
  1  9 of continuing education annually in order to maintain
  1 10 certification.  The department shall establish curriculum
  1 11 content, instructor qualifications, and related requirements
  1 12 regarding initial and continuing certification pursuant to
  1 13 this section by rule.
  1 14                           EXPLANATION
  1 15    This bill provides for education requirements relating to
  1 16 initial and ongoing certification as a nurse aide.  The bill
  1 17 provides that in addition to any other training requirements
  1 18 established by the department of inspections and appeals by
  1 19 rule, a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program
  1 20 shall consist of at least 90 clock hours of training.  The
  1 21 bill provides that after becoming certified, a nurse aide
  1 22 shall receive a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education
  1 23 annually in order to maintain that certification.  The bill
  1 24 provides that the department shall establish curriculum
  1 25 content, instructor qualifications, and related requirements
  1 26 regarding initial and continuing certification by rule.
