  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  602.10111A  PRACTICE OF LAW BY
  1  2 IN=HOUSE CORPORATE COUNSEL.
  1  3    Subject to the provisions of section 602.10111, an attorney
  1  4 who is an employee of a corporation and who, within the scope
  1  5 of the attorney's employment, renders legal advice, may
  1  6 provide legal services in this state on behalf of such
  1  7 employer even if not admitted to practice law in this state
  1  8 upon the condition that the attorney is admitted to practice
  1  9 law before the highest court of original jurisdiction in any
  1 10 state in the United States or the District of Columbia and the
  1 11 attorney is a member in good standing of such bar.
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill allows an in=house corporate attorney who is not
  1 14 admitted to practice law in Iowa but who is admitted to
  1 15 practice law in any state in the United States or the District
  1 16 of Columbia and who is a member in good standing of such bar
  1 17 to provide legal services on behalf of the employer
  1 18 corporation.  Such a nonresident attorney shall not appear in
  1 19 court unless the court grants the attorney special admission
  1 20 under the provisions of Code section 602.10111.
