1 28 EXPLANATION
1 29 This bill provides that the annual base salaries of
1 30 deputies in the offices of the county auditor, county
1 31 treasurer, and county recorder and the deputy in charge of the
1 32 vehicle registration and title division shall not be in an
1 33 amount that exceeds 85 percent, instead of 80 percent, of the
1 34 annual base salary of the deputy's principal officer. The
1 35 bill also provides that in offices where more than two
2 1 deputies are required, the annual base salary of each
2 2 additional deputy shall not exceed 80 percent, instead of 75
2 3 percent, of the principal officer's base salary.
2 4 The bill defines "base salary" as the basic compensation
2 5 excluding overtime pay, longevity pay, shift differential pay,
2 6 or other supplemental pay and fringe benefits.
2 7 The bill also includes a change to subsection 2 of Code
2 8 section 331.904 indicating that "base salary" for deputy
2 9 sheriffs excludes "supplemental" pay, not "supplement" pay.
