Section 331.904, subsection 1, Code 2003, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 1. The annual base salary of the first and second deputy 1 4 officer of the office of auditor, treasurer, and recorder, and 1 5 the deputy in charge of the motor vehicle registration and 1 6 title division shall each be an amount not to exceedeighty1 7 eighty=five percent of the annual base salary of the deputy's 1 8 principal officer. In offices where more than two deputies 1 9 are required, each additional deputy shall be paid an amount 1 10 not to exceedseventy=fiveeighty percent of the principal 1 11 officer's base salary. The amount of the annual base salary 1 12 of each deputy shall be certified by the principal officer to 1 13 the board and, if a deputy's base salary does not exceed the 1 14 limitations specified in this subsection, the board shall 1 15 certify the base salary to the auditor. The board shall not 1 16 certify a deputy's base salary which exceeds the limitations 1 17 of this subsection. 1 18 As used in this subsection, "base salary" means the basic 1 19 compensation excluding overtime pay, longevity pay, shift 1 20 differential pay, or other supplemental pay and fringe 1 21 benefits. 1 22 Sec. 2. Section 331.904, subsection 2, paragraph e, Code 1 23 2003, is amended to read as follows: 1 24 e. As used in this subsection, "base salary" means the 1 25 basic compensation excluding overtime pay, longevity pay, 1 26 shift differential pay, or othersupplementsupplemental pay 1 27 and fringe benefits. 1 28 EXPLANATION 1 29 This bill provides that the annual base salaries of 1 30 deputies in the offices of the county auditor, county 1 31 treasurer, and county recorder and the deputy in charge of the 1 32 vehicle registration and title division shall not be in an 1 33 amount that exceeds 85 percent, instead of 80 percent, of the 1 34 annual base salary of the deputy's principal officer. The 1 35 bill also provides that in offices where more than two 2 1 deputies are required, the annual base salary of each 2 2 additional deputy shall not exceed 80 percent, instead of 75 2 3 percent, of the principal officer's base salary. 2 4 The bill defines "base salary" as the basic compensation 2 5 excluding overtime pay, longevity pay, shift differential pay, 2 6 or other supplemental pay and fringe benefits. 2 7 The bill also includes a change to subsection 2 of Code 2 8 section 331.904 indicating that "base salary" for deputy 2 9 sheriffs excludes "supplemental" pay, not "supplement" pay. 2 10 LSB 2727HH 80 2 11 av/cf/24
