  1  1    Section 1.  COLLEGE STUDENT AID COMMISSION == SENIOR LIVING
  1  2 TRUST FUND.  There is appropriated from the senior living
  1  3 trust fund created in section 249H.4 to the college student
  1  4 aid commission for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2003, and
  1  5 ending June 30, 2004, the following amount, or so much thereof
  1  6 as is necessary, to be used for the purpose designated,
  1  7 notwithstanding section 249H.4 or any other provision of law
  1  8 to the contrary:
  1  9    For loan repayments under the registered nurse loan
  1 10 repayment program pursuant to section 261.23, subsection 4:
  1 11 .................................................. $    500,000
  1 12    From the funds appropriated in this section, the commission
  1 13 shall use not less than $100,000 for purposes of loan
  1 14 repayments to eligible registered nurses who hold graduate
  1 15 degrees in nursing and are employed in this state as
  1 16 instructors or professors by the college of nursing of an
  1 17 accredited higher education institution as defined in section
  1 18 261.92.  Notwithstanding section 261.23, subsection 4, or any
  1 19 contract entered into pursuant to that subsection, the
  1 20 provisions requiring the eligible registered nurse to agree to
  1 21 practice in an eligible community in this state that has
  1 22 agreed to provide additional funds for the registered nurse's
  1 23 loan repayment shall not apply to this paragraph.  However,
  1 24 the registered nurse shall repay any funds paid on the
  1 25 registered nurse's loan by the commission if the registered
  1 26 nurse fails to be employed as an instructor or professor as
  1 27 required by this paragraph for the period of time required
  1 28 under the contract for loan repayment entered into pursuant to
  1 29 section 261.23, subsection 4.
  1 30                           EXPLANATION
  1 31    This bill appropriates $500,000 from the senior living
  1 32 trust fund to the college student aid commission for the 2003=
  1 33 2004 fiscal year for loan repayments under the registered
  1 34 nurse loan repayment program, and stipulates that of the
  1 35 moneys appropriated, not less than $100,000 must be used to
  2  1 make loan repayments to eligible registered nurses who hold
  2  2 graduate degrees in nursing and are employed in this state as
  2  3 instructors or professors by the college of nursing of an
  2  4 accredited higher education institution.
