  4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:

  1  1    Section 1.  Section 135.24, Code 2003, is amended by adding
  1  2 the following new subsection:
  1  3    NEW SUBSECTION.  3A.  Eligible hospitals, clinics, or other
  1  4 health care facilities, health care referral programs, or
  1  5 charitable organizations participating in the provision of
  1  6 free medical, dental, or chiropractic services through the
  1  7 volunteer health care provider program are immune from any
  1  8 civil liability that might otherwise be incurred as the result
  1  9 of the free care provided by a health care provider registered
  1 10 under this section.
  1 11                           EXPLANATION
  1 12    This bill provides for immunity from civil liability for
  1 13 hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities, health
  1 14 care referral programs, and charitable organizations that
  1 15 participate in the provision of free medical, dental, or
  1 16 chiropractic services through the volunteer health care
  1 17 provider program.
